Flourishing with a Co-operative Economy: Re-infusing Social and Ecological Values into Economic Systems and Models 

Date: Tuesday April 20, 6pm - 9pm
Location: #1-City Hall Centennial Square 6pm. 
Guest speakers Noel Keogh “A Culture of Sustainability: Re-embedding the Economy in Community and the Ecosphere” and James Rowe presented “Profit, Growth, and Sustainable Economies”.  There was a  display of local co-operative businesses as well as a Citizen-led discussion on the economy. More>>

Location: Bob Wright Centre 
James A. Powell, OBE & Professor of Academic Enterprise, University of Salford, UK will presentd co-designing community and social enterprise  – an experience from the North of England, UK.   James has forged innovative approaches to ‘place management, social capital and learning regions, improving the  partnerships and working relationships between academics, community and civic leaders.  This strategic collaborative engagement has resulted in significant increases in returns in sustainable third sector or social economy streams.
In addition, Dr. Ana Maria Peredo, Director of CCCBE & Associate Professor, Faculty of Business and Michael Litchfield,  MA Law student and Graduate Research Fellow at CCCBE co-presented: Fostering social enterprise and innovation in Canada.
Rupert Downing, Co-Director, Canadian Social Economy Hub presented his findings in Global Local Movement: An  international overview of the policy developments to strengthening the role of Social Enterprises in socio-economic development.

Then the panel engaged in a discussion about the broader streams of understanding around the facilitation of Social Enterprise.

Transforming and Preserving Traditional Peruvian Mountain Cultures

Date: February 5th, 2010. 


Location: Ceremonial Hall First Peoples House, University of Victoria

Ashley Akins, Director of Mosqoy and President of the Q'ente Textile Revitalization Society and Rolando Auccapuri Iturriaga, Mosqoy Alumnus and 2010 Mosqoy Ambassador
 were guest speakers.
Ashley and Rolando shared their experience with indigenous traditions and lifestyles of Quechua communities in the Sacred Valley of Peru, and the perpetual challenges they face in trying to keep their culture alive. Rolando will share his experience as first generation alum from Mosqoy and how a changing globalized world has impacted his community. Ashley will discuss her views as an outsider who first visited Peru in 2006, and has since dedicated her life to doing what she can to help.
